ChatGPT is OpenAI’s AI assistant. You type or speak a request and it replies with text, images or code. It is the best-known AI chatbot, and in StatCounter’s data it sends the largest share of website visits among AI chatbots.

How to use ChatGPT
- Go to chatgpt.com, or install the ChatGPT app on iOS or Android.
- Create a free account. The Free plan needs no payment details.
- Start a new chat and describe your task in a sentence or two.
- Add context: who it is for, the tone and the length you want.
- Upload a file or image if your plan allows it, and ask a question about it.
- Read the answer critically, then ask for changes (shorter, simpler, in a table).
- Check important facts, numbers and prices with an official source before you use them.
- If you use it daily, look at Projects and custom GPTs on Plus, and check the privacy settings to opt out of training if you prefer.
Prompts that work well
Act as a UK small-business bookkeeper. Explain the difference between being VAT-registered and not, in plain English for a new sole trader, in under 200 words.
I run a three-person plumbing firm in Glasgow. Write a polite email chasing an invoice that is 14 days overdue. Keep it under 120 words, friendly but firm.
Compare Make, n8n and Zapier for a small business in a table with columns: pricing model, ease of use, best for. End with a one-sentence recommendation.
List any assumptions you made and tell me which facts I should verify with an official source.
Make this shorter and remove the jargon. Keep the second paragraph exactly as it is.
